In-service training

An effective in-service teacher training event provides experienced teachers with opportunities to benefit from the three major contributors to professional development: input of new information; personal reflection; interactive discussion with other practitioners. In this talk I’ll discuss some ways in which these three components can be managed and combined for optimal teacher learning.

Advanced teacher trainers

Advanced teacher trainers can be defined as those who are both experienced and knowledgeable, with acknowledged expertise in both preparing new teachers and supporting development for more experienced ones. In my view, their two key needs are a) opportunities to share experiences and issues with counterparts from different places and b) updated information on research and thinking relevant to ELT.
